Ruth Opposes Tunstall Police Cuts

Plans to close Tunstall police station have been criticised by a local Member of Parliament.

Ruth Smeeth, Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent North & Kidsgrove, said the closure would delay response times and threaten the safety of local residents.

Ruth said: ‘This is a well-used local station in an area where the police have worked hard to bring crime down. Closing this station now could have a real impact on police response times, as we’ve already seen with Kidsgrove police station. Worse still, this will mean the end of 24 hour station access anywhere in Stoke-on-Trent.’

‘This is just the latest attack on emergency services across North Staffordshire, with Kidsgrove police station already gone and Burslem and Kidsgrove fire stations under threat of closure.’

‘This decision has been made with no public consultation, with scant regard for the safety of local residents. When will Mr Ellis realise enough is enough and stop playing politics with public safety?’
